No Frontiers: The Art of Ding Yanyong

Para/Site Art Space - Cash In

Chen Shao Xiong, one of the original members of the influential ‘Big Tail Elephant' group in Guangdong, and Christina Li of Para/Site join together on a collaborative exhibition to develop financial products under the banner of the Bank of Chinese Contemporary Art (BOCCA). The simple installation and website is well-presented, but the idea is cliched and the message banal and - in coinciding with the world's present financial and credit crunch - it has nothing to say about any of it!

The Guangzhou Triennial & The Taipei Biennial

Osage Kwun Tong - Futuramanila

Cat Street Gallery - Tan Yuk King

An energetic exhibition by this hard-working New Zealand artist, resident in Hong Kong for the last three years and soon to move to Korea. Videos, installation and sculpture all intelligent and vital.

Hong Kong Museum of Art: "Hong Kong Art: Open Dialogue" Exhibition Series II - New Ink Art: Innovation and Beyond

If this exhibition is arguing that traditional Chinese painting is as innovative as other art media, then it fails: apart from historic innovations within the genre, there is little new here to excite. But the serious failure of this exhibition is its lack of curatorial rigour, intellectual enquiry and presentation of an argument for choosing these particular art pieces, grouping them together and putting it on exhibition - this is all repeated in the dismal catalogue. If you are new to the medium, this exhibition gives a general introduction - for everyone else, forget it. (Also: read a review in the Reviews section)

Art Statements Gallery - Yoshitaka Amano

Reminiscent of the highly polished fibreglass bodies of motorbikes, these two-dimensional renditions of Amano's manga characters offer memorabilia to fans.

Para/Site Art Space - Terminus

A solid exhibition (especially Dishwasher Pete's 'zine & record, Liu Chuang's installation and Sascha Pohle's video 'The Swimmer'). Could have been much improved if the selected videos were more relevant (except for Pohle) - and bring your own seat to watch them!
